David Tarantino was born in Rome in 1998. 

Works

Soundtracks for films

In 2025 he composed the original soundtrack for the film Cuerpo Celeste, produced by Planta, Horamagica, and dispàrte, directed by Nayra Ilic García. The movie was presented at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, where it received the Special Jury Mention prize. The film enjoyed significant success at several prestigious festivals, including the San Sebastián International Film Festival, Zurich Film Festival, Guadalajara International Film Festival, and Giffoni Film Festival. His score was highly acclaimed and cited in numerous reviews.

In 2023 he composed the original soundtrack for the film Catene, a production of the Scuola d'Arte Cinematografica Gian Maria Volontè and dispàrte. The film was presented at the 21st edition of Alice Nella Città during the 27th Rome Film Fest.

Soundtrack for short films

 

As composer he worked on many short films, among these Notturno by Lorenzo Nuccio, for which he won the award for Best Original Music at the 2025 Roma Creative Film Festival, and Manica a vento, directed by Emilia Mazzacurati, that was subsequently selected by Amazon Prime Video for its streaming catalog.

Olympic Ceremonies 

Between 2025 and 2026, he worked as Music Editor for four major Olympic ceremonies:

  • Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Special Winter Olympics Games Torino 2025.

  • Closing Ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026 (held at the Verona Arena).

  • Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 (held at the Verona Arena).

Assistant Music Editor

He worked as Assistant Music Editor to Roberta D'Angelo on the Netflix series Supersex, directed by Matteo Rovere, Francesca Mazzoleni, and Francesco Carrozzini.

 

Sound editor

 

As sound editor he worked on severals film, like:

  • Io e il Secco (produced by Nightswim, directed by Gianluca Santoni). The film was nominated for a David di Donatello award for Best Directorial Debut and received the "Uno Sguardo sul Futuro" Special Mention for directing at the 21st edition of Alice Nella Città during the 27th Rome Film Fest.

  • L'Albero, directed by Sara Petraglia, which won Best Film in the Progressive Cinema category at the Rome Film Fest.

  • Il primo figlio, directed by Mara Fondacaro.

Early Career

In collaboration with Tommaso Bonavenia, he created the sound design for the short film Guardare Attraverso (directed by Lorenzo Vitrone), winner of the 10th edition of Bookciak, Azione!. The short was screened during the pre-opening event of the Giornate degli Autori at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival.

University & professional courses

2019 – 2022

 

Completed the three-year professional training program in Sound Editing at the Scuola d’Arte Cinematografica Gian Maria Volontè in Rome.

 

2018 – 2019

 

Attended the two-year specialized course in Music Composition for Cinema, TV, Cartoon Animation, and Videogames taught by Professor Luigi Sansò at the International School of Comics in Rome, earning his diploma in late 2019.

 

Simultaneously, in 2018, he completed a professional training course in Sound Design for Cinema and Videogames at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

2020

 

Completed advanced online training modules organized by IITM (Italian Institute for Musical Technologies), taught by Professor Silvio Relandini, including:

  • Intermediate and Advanced Virtual Orchestration.

  • Intermediate Film Scoring.

Attended a masterclass with Hans Zimmer at the View Conference in Turin.

2021

 

Selected for the 10th edition of CSC Lab – Music for Film at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. The program was featured with renowned composers such as Pivio, Pasquale Catalano, Francesco Cerasi, Vito lo Re, and sound engineer Federico Savina.

 

Selected for the Music Composition Masterclass (part of the Campus Project in Cagliari, organised by CSC).

Under the mentorship of composers Francesco Cerasi, Max Viale, Pivio, and Pasquale Catalano, he composed scores for several short films directed by second-year students from the CSC (National Film School)​​
